Learning To Trust Yourself

Learning To Trust Yourself

Description: In this episode, Melissa and Maribeth (from ADD Professionals) offer success strategies for ADD by learning to trust yourself.

Written Transcript

When we have ADHD, past experience begins to teach us that we can't trust our brain!  It is a terrible feeling and it makes us want to give up. Not true!  We can trust our brain!  We just need to learn the right tools to help it out a little bit.  Part of trusting yourself is leaning to understand the uniqueness of your brain.  With the right tools you can…….

*Follow a plan to completion

*Master your memory

*Gain control of your negative emotions

and many other previously challenging things.

FOR EXAMPLE:

GOAL: Remember to take an important report to the office in the morning.

TOOL: Think it-Say it-Do it. Get out of your head and into the physical world.  You can't trust your brain to "mentally" remember, so use this trick to "physically" remember.  Try it!  It's easy and it WORKS!!!

1. Think it - "I need to take my report to the office" (some of the brain is involved in just thinking)

2.  Say it - "I will put the report on the front seat of my car so I remember to take it to the office" (More of the brain is involved when we think and talk)

3.  DO it - Actually move the report to the front seat of your car RIGHT NOW, while you are thinking and saying the above. (LOTS of our brain is involved when we think, say and do - great programming!)

SUCCESS!

When you learn the right tools for your unique ADD brain, it can work just as well, if not better than any other brain.  Remember, 85% of ADD brains belong to people of above average intelligence.  Learn the tools to let yours shine!!!
